This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My high school is a small choice school in the Northshore school district. We have a very small budget for supplies, and few novels are available to us for students to read.

I would like to encourage my students to read more by offering young adult novels with diverse authors for their literature circle assignments.

I have selected a variety of novels for students to read. Many are award-winning, or recommended YA novels or graphic novels. I have specifically looked for novels that showcase diverse authors and lived experiences.

My goal is for students to enjoy reading and discussing these novels. For some students, these novels will be a way to see themselves or aspects of their own cultures in the curriculum. For others, this will be a way for them to see into and empathize with another group's culture and lived experiences.
