Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom consists of twenty-three energetic, enthusiastic children who have a passion for learning and putting their knowledge to use. My classroom also includes many English Learners from many different countries. They really enjoy working together in small groups as well as with partners. My students love hands on activities, projects, and anything messy.
My students are also very avid readers and always have a book in their hand.
They enjoy coming to school daily and always put their best foot forward! They work hard in everything they do and are always respectful of one another.
My Project
My students come from many different cultures, countries, and continents. It very important for them to understand the lives and experiences of other people that may not look, talk, dress, or act like them.
Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes will help my students understand empathy and bravery.
In Japanese culture there is a legend that, "If a sick person folds one thousand paper cranes, the gods will grant her wish and make her healthy again." In this book Sadako becomes ill and her classmates pull together to help her recover. After reading this story, my class will create one thousand paper cranes in honor of all families affected by the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima during World War II.
