My Students
This is my 1st year teaching. I have a very diverse class of awesome 5th graders! They have not been in the classroom in a traditional setting since they were in the 3rd grade. This means I have an extremely diverse group of students: financially, social emotionally, academically, as well as culturally, levels of English, learning disabilities, physical/mental challenges, etc.
All of the diversity and examples above come together to form our awesome, school family.
All students are approved for free lunch.
I've yet to receive my 1st paycheck, but have pre-spent much of it getting supplies for all students. There are several "classroom" tools for student learning that I would be able to use for years. One such example, found in most experienced teacher's classrooms are individual dry erase boards.
My Project
Being a 1st year teacher, I still have many needs to support student learning. A top priority is Dry Erase Boards and pens. This allows for individual or group participation, quick sharing for instant, quick assessment. Thus allowing instant feedback, reteach, or move on decision made by live data.
Students enjoy writing on the boards - (which also helps with focus and participation) These Dry Erase Boards will be a tool for all of my students for years to come.
The side with the grid is ideal for math. 5th graders learn and practice long division, long decimals, long multiplication, fractions, etc., all of these can be taught, shown, understood much faster with graph paper or grid board. Currently, I have students write on paper turned sideways (which allows us to use columns to try and keep problems aligned), but we will go through sooooooooo much paper.
The white side of the board will also benefit students in every subject. Again, all students answer same questions, share with team and teacher, and then learn what they know and what they still need to practice.
The Low odor pens are smaller tipped so that numbers and graphs can be written neatly in the grid boxes.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
