This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students come to school with bright shiny faces and smiles that light up the room! As the majority of our students are considered low-income, school is - for many - the only place that is a safe, warm, and welcoming consistency in their lives. We are a dependable place of comfort and love that our students require to prosper.
We consider it our duty to make each and every one of our students feel at home when they are at school, because we know that our students are worth going the extra mile for.
My Project
As an avid reader, I can appreciate the excitement that arises from receiving new books. What is even more exciting, is seeing our students' faces light up upon the crisp covers being displayed for the first time. Graphic novels are a type of text that interest many readers who may otherwise be reluctant to read a more traditional text. Student engagement is of the utmost importance in learning, and these texts will make the difference for our young readers. The titles also happen to address our content standards, which is a double bonus! Having these texts available to our students will not only enhance their reading experience, but they will help to create lifelong readers who are passionate about discovering new texts.
