My Students

I have the honor of working with resilient and hardworking students whom have made it their goal to overcome obstacles placed in their path over the past year and a half. An unstable schedule, lack of of transportation or home, as well as illness, interrupted these and thousands of students' participation in city public schools during the pandemic. Children now work to fill the gaps in their education with great determination and excitement.

With smiles and lots of chatter groups of students gather ready to move up another reading level, and/or complete the reading challenge of the day.

They are eager to choose books that are going to help them practice the skills of the week and know that every book read is a step closer to filling their learning loss gap.

My students have goals they know need to be achieved. Some are reading two to three grade levels below where they should be. Although there may be a lot of work ahead of them they are still eager and thrilled to be back in school with their teachers.

My Project

The books listed in my order will help me meet the reading levels of students K-5. Many of my students are lacking the foundational reading skills such as word patterns, sight words and simple sentence structure. These books will help them track their progress as a reader.

The plan is to have the students choose the books they would like to read according to interest and level.

They may read these books in class and at home. Every week they will have the opportunity to choose new books. By reading in something they are interested in and at their targeted reading level the student will be practicing the skills they need to become a successful reader.
