My Students

My students are learning about numbers and counting. They need math games and materials that are hands-on and fun to play with.

My students are very young preschoolers.

This is their very first year of school. They are learning to recognize numbers and count objects. We need some basic math games and activities to inspire them to practice their math skills. My students come from a high poverty area. Many of the children do not have their needs met at home. Some live in homeless shelters, with relatives, or public housing. Most students are second language learners. They love coming to school to learn and play with others.

My Project

The materials requested will be used in the Math Center or for small group activities with a teacher. Students will have the opportunity to recognize and name numerals, count objects,sequence numbers, and learn to use the last number counted to say how many. The children love to count aloud and sing math/counting songs, but currently we do not have many math materials that they find interesting enough to play with on their own. Adding these new activities will spark their curiosity and provide them with a challenge.

As adults, we know how often we use math in our everyday lives.

It is so important to build a strong math foundation in our young children. These materials will provide countless hours of quality play time, which will keep the students engaged and learning.
