My students need to practice and understand math concepts so they can work on math without having to use finger counting.
Our children are having their first school experience.
They are excited to be at school and to be learning. Many are behind their peers without any school experience before kindergarten. Some do not have the adult support or resources to work on their school skills. Homework is ignored so the children that really need the extra practice are not getting it.
Our school is located in central Florida. We are a Title I school with over 85% of the children qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Our school serves breakfast to every student each morning for free.
My Project
The children will be working on math skills that they need to improve by using the Math Numeration Program on the computer. They can work on their own or work with a partner for practice. We have computer stations in each of the kindergarten classrooms and the students get time in reading centers and math centers to work on the computer programs. The way that Essential Skills have their software programs set up, each child will have their own programs to work from. As they complete a skill, it is checked off and the child moves on to the next skill. Teachers can also have the children work on skills that we are covering in class. The skills that are covered in this program are: basic number concepts such as number recognition, counting, addition and subtraction
The students will be practicing and learning their basic math skills through play by using a computer program.
Essential Skills provides a quality education software that makes learning fun. I have used the phonics and the phonemic awareness programs for years. The students get so excited to earn stars and go on to the next skill. I love to hear "Mrs. Hester! I got a star!"
