it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Everyone has the right to learn in a safe and worry-free environment. An anti-bullying and character educations is the best way to reduce and eliminate bullies on the playground. Only by teaching students how to deal with bullies and where to get help can the problem begin to cease.
My students live in South Central Los Angeles.
They live in one of the poorest sections of town. Their school neighbors factories and train tracks. They all qualify for free federally funded lunches. At a very young age many have already faced tremendous heartaches and troubles. This years class has two students who have lost one or both parents. Some of my students live with an extended family, while others in a single parent household. They're hard working and their desire to learn and be the best they can be is evident with all their efforts at school. At home resources are limited and most don't even have books to practice or inspire a love of reading.
My Project
I am requesting 10 copies of "Bullying in Schools", to supports my students desire to build an anti-bullying campaign in school. My students want to educate all of their fellow schoolmates on how to deal with bullies. They want to use various strategies from the "Bullying In Schools" to set up a buddy system with lower and upper grade students to stop bullying in the schoolyard. In addition I am requesting a collection of anti-bullying literature to host a read-a-thon in classes where upper-grade and lower grade students will buddy up and read.
I am also asking for markers so that after reading students can create posters depicting their learning.
Please help my students preform a community service which will keep all students in our school safe from bullying.
The best way to combat bullying is to educate all students on what to do if bullied and where to seek help. This collecting of literature and "Bullying in Schools" will help my students gain the knowledge and strategies to deal with bullying appropriately. No one can learn if they are fearful. School needs to be a safe place for all to learn.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
