My students need an All About Numbers Learning Chart, Counting Boxes and other counting games to develop concrete number sense while they are actively engaged.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Dean Schlicter once said, "Go down deep enough into anything and you will find mathematics." Children need to be immersed in mathematics from the very beginning of kindergarten. The number chart and counting games will help my students dive into math in a fun and engaging way.
I teach 18 lively kindergarten students at an all kindergarten school.
Our whole day is centered around five year old hearts and minds. Our school is a Title I funded school. Most of the students in my classroom receive free or reduced lunch and over half are non-English speaking. It is important to me that my classroom be a warm and inviting community, full of opportunities to learn. Every day my students work in math centers on skills they have previously been taught. They also have opportunities to explore through hands on activities. We need some new and engaging number and counting activities to help my students develop a more concrete number sense.
My Project
The materials I am asking for will help my students be completely engaged in learning about numbers and counting. The hands-on experience is just what my kindergartners need to develop these skills. The skills they will learn from these activities will be ones they will use in every day life. They will become better counters and develop a better number sense from these activities.
Your donation to this project will ensure that my students are able to have more hands-on, engaging experiences in math.
The items I am asking for will help my students become better at identifying numbers and counting. These are skills they will use every day for the rest of their lives. Please, help our future accountants and business owners develop a concrete number sense at an early age! Thank you for taking time to consider my project!
