'I'm 'Ready' to Listen in the Lab!

My students need these headphones in order to make a classroom set of headphones. Many of my students cannot afford to bring in headphones or earbuds to use in the computer lab for the I-Ready.

My Students

I teach at a small middle school in a small school district. The district I teach in only has one elementary school, one middle school and one high school. The majority of the students live in poverty and are homeless. What I mean by homeless is that the parent(s) and the children are living with other relatives because they do not have a home of their own. The middle school I teach at is a Title One school, which means that we receive funds from the government to get some of the resources that we need. In addition, the students all receive free lunch and breakfast everyday.

My goal everyday is to make my classroom a safe, learning environment, so that my students work toward being successful scholars every day.

I try to make learning as engaging as I can because I know that many students can be turned off from it because they feel school is boring. I teach my students that history happens everyday and they are a part of it. I love seeing the expressions on their faces when they begin to discuss historical events. Many of my students have not explored outside of their own city.

My Project

My students need to read the stories, but also listen to them. My students are part of a reading intervention program that is used at my school called I-Ready. Two days out of the week, my students go to the lab for Reading intervention. The software program requires that the students use headphones and/or earbuds for the reading intervention because stories can be read or various skills videos play during the intervention time.

How can my students get the help they need if they do not have the listening devices?

That is a great question. This set of headphones will allow my students to have a classroom set of headphones to use in the lab. Many of my students cannot afford headphones and/or earbuds, and that is one less thing I want them to worry about because I want to be able to provide the headphones for them, so that they can be successful in English Language Arts.
