This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
EBC High School is a small high school located in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn. Many of the students here are hardworking and conscientious. There are, however, many students who are struggling readers.
As the librarian I have attempted to lure these students into the library and foster a love of reading with Graphic Novels. Graphic Novels are a great disguise to encourage these students to read. Their comic book style hides the fact that they are reading.
I am happy to say that the few graphic novels the library contains are constantly being checked out by our most reluctant readers. These students check the library daily to see if any new materials have arrived. Unfortunately the schools library budget is not large enough to build the collection as quickly as I would like.
Please help the students at EBC High School realize how enjoyable reading can be by putting the materials they desire into their hands.
