My Students
Imagine what it would be like to have to learn to read without words in front of you. As hard as that sounds, that is what we are asking of some of our students who are visual learners. Visuals aids like photographs help many students discover, process, learn and achieve.
The students in my room come from a variety of inspiring backgrounds.
The majority of students that I work with have some form of a disability. Whether their barrier be autism, an attention deficit disorder, or a physical disability they all have one thing in common...they need less words in their social/emotional learning and more support through visuals.
My Project
This camera will provide opportunities to a new kind of learning. Social skills can now be broken down into specific steps, captured at the perfect moment through a snapshot and instantly reviewed to help reinforce appropriate execution. Students will be able to demonstrate skills through still photographs or digital video. Because of this camera, students who struggle with retaining information over time will have instant feedback, the ability to preview, review and watch all over again. The instant feedback, repetition, and ability to print off visuals of themselves will help students learn and retain so that they can be their very best selves.
The students that I work with often have language, attention and learning disabilities that may interfere with their ability to learn through conversation.
Many students with or without a disability benefit from visual aids to help support verbal explanations. This camera will help conveniently teach students through photographs. It will allow them to observe and learn from their very own selves as they are able to instantly view social skills as they practice, perfect and execute new abilities.
