The students in my classroom are eager for knowledge. Unfortunately, they lack the adequate financial means to provide for supplies that could further their understanding of science concepts. If they have materials that inspire them, like these rockets, they will gain interest needed for success.
The students in my classroom are from diverse backgrounds.
I have students at high poverty levels. The demographics consist of White, Black, Hispanic, and Chinese students. The levels of ability are varied and require the use of exciting and novel approaches to learning. Unfortunately, these types of learning opportunities take more resources and financial obligations than what is available. Students in my school need these opportunities to be successful.
I have started several rocketry programs at the schools where I have taught. The programs are geared towards hands on, project based learning and provide a captivating activity of launching rockets. I have found that launching rockets captures the interest of even the adults. The students will have the opportunity to go further with their rocketry program that can be to the level of working with NASA. I have worked with Georgia Tech through their outreach program with inner-city youth and had great success. I would like to provide my new school with the same proven results and opportunities that I have found to be an invaluable assets.
If I can get this project funded for this rocketry program, I will be able to invite and excite students from broad levels of educational ability to participate in a program that can teach many science concepts that are difficult to engage students in without a "HOOK." I know that this program works.
I just need the supplies. As you can see the cost is significant. This project is the opening act to a lengthy rocketry program at my school.
