Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students want to dive right into their reading and writing projects without having to look for their books, works in progress and supplies every day. Second graders need an attractive and efficient way to keep up with their materials so that they can have pride in their work.
My second graders are low income inner city children that are learning to read fluently and develop their vocabularies.
Many are English language learners and most do not have home libraries. Creating an attractive and efficient school library with personal cubbies, writing centers and easy access to a wide variety of books is essential to help them become life long readers.
My Project
The materials selected in this project will provide each child with a colorful cubby for his or her books chosen for the week. The cubby will also hold literacy spirals, reading logs, and other works in progress to help the children stay organized and on task. The table top writing center and book display will keep literacy center shared materials within reach.
This project is important because my children are at a critical age where developing the love of reading is necessary to ensure their future educational success.
The excitement of receiving items that will give them pride in their classroom library will help them achieve this.
