Ever tried drawing in a regular notebook? The ink from your pen bleeds, the paper is too thin and the next thing you know you rip the page in your notebook. This is why science notebooks were invented. These books are strong enough so that young scientist can draw as well as write their observations
We are a Brooklyn bound school located in New York.
Approximately 35% of our student population is learning disabled from challenging backgrounds. Several students struggle with attention issues that prevent them form concentrating on specific task. However, based on learning style assessments and learning needs, a majority of our students are good artists and enjoy drawing. They are also visual learners who learn best by doing rather than only reading and viewing the information.
In a small, safe community where every student is known, our school prepares young people in grades 6 through 12 for success in college and post-secondary careers. We believe adolescents learn best when skills are embedded in big investigations of real-world problems. In collaboration with other students, teachers, staff and parents, we equip our students with the skills and orientation necessary for responsible citizenship, so they are prepared to be life-long learners.
My Project
Students will have the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of Darwin as they tour their neighborhood, parks and zoos making observations of the bird life in these areas, drawing the beaks of different species of birds.
Students will also use their science notebooks to record observations of various animal and plant cells viewed under a microscope. These drawings and observations will be the background research that they will use to create their storyboards for an animation film project. Students will learn how to incorporate their knowledge of art as well as science to complete each project.
Our students are unable to afford these notebooks due to their price.
If these notebooks are provided, students will be able to organize their information in a manner that will enhance their learning as well as allow their teachers to easily and clearly assess their progress. These notebooks will allow students to document the visual representations of the scientific world around them.
More than half of students from low‑income households
