This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at EBC High School in Bushwick Brooklyn are a wonderful group of students. They work hard and strive to do their very best. Even with all of their hard work they are still at a disadvantage. Many of the students at EBC work in order to help support there families and do not have a great deal of time to dedicate to the one thing that will help them succeed even more.
We would like the children at EBC high school to read as much as possible but unfortunately with their hectic schedules with school work and jobs they can't find the time.
One way these students can tackle this problem is with audio books. Audio books can expose the students to great literature, new experiences, and rich vocabulary. When students see that listening to a good book can offer so many things they will find the time to read more often.
Audio books can also assist our English Language Learners. Many of these ELL students have only been in the country a short period of time yet they are held to the same standards of everyone else. An audio book can help these students with the difficulties of learning a new language by hearing how words are pronounced and decoding vocabulary words in context.
The audio books will allow students to read during times where reading would be difficult; on the train or bus to school and work, while doing chores, or instead of watching television.
Please help expose the students of EBC High School to the wonders of audio books and great literature by supporting this proposal.
