My students need books, such as "A Symphony of Whales" and "101 Music Games for Children," to work on rhythm and rhyming in music. We are always looking for ways to tie music and literacy together.

My Students
Mission Possible! That is the theme of our school this year and to meet our mission in music we are working to make a literacy connection to music!
My students are fantastic!
They all come from a title 1 neighborhood, but manage to stay upbeat no matter what their situation. They are ready and willing to learn everyday. One of the great things about our school is that we all look different and speak many languages. All of these students have limited resources at home, but we can provide what they need at school-- with some help.
My Project
I have selected stories such as America, My Country Tis of Thee, Hip Cat, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain-- all of which allow our students to create musical projects with instruments or simply to better understand a patriotic song with unfamiliar text. Many of my students do not have reading materials anywhere but at school and it is imperative that they are exposed to all kinds of text and ways to read and interact with it. In music we are always combining instruments with text to create a new way of learning for those that may struggle.
My students thrive on different opportunities and giving them the resources to be creative is the key to their success.
Providing these books will help to achieve the goal of creating life-long learners who love music!
