My Students
In 3rd grade, the pressure is on to pass the CRCT for promotion to 4th grade. At times, students forget to have fun when they read. (Cue the Nook E-Reader) TAH-DAH! The Nook E-Reader is a perfect tool to keep my technology savvy students on their toes in small reading groups.
My students are in 3rd grade and are learning in a Title One school in South Georgia.
They are a mix of Gifted and regular education students who bring unique qualities to the classroom. There is a hip hop dancer, a cheerleader, several children of military families, an aspiring evening news broadcaster, a future president, a writer, an actor, a singing superstar, a shy one, and a variety of other personalities.
My Project
We are requesting one Nook E-Reader for the classroom to help students who may have challenges in reading. The Nook E-Reader will read to the student or the student can read from the digital pages. The dictionary feature alone helps the students to find and record words they do not know.
We are also requesting small group seating which will allow students their own space in the classroom while they are reading through traditional or in a digital manner.
This project is important because my students must have the necessary skills in order to pass the Reading CRCT (statewide assessment for promotion).
This test makes my students nervous. I am hoping that with a Nook, reading for pleasure or information will not seem like such a scary or demanding activity.
