My students need a classroom set of scientific calculators. We are dedicated to preparing a cohort of technologically literate mathematicians.

My Students
My students are ready for trigonometry, but without Scientific Calculators I can't ask them for the COSINE of anything!
My students have been chosen through a lottery system, yet they outperform their peers across the city and the nation thanks to a ten hour school day, and an 11 month school year!
We are part of the KIPP network of schools, which means students, teachers and school leaders have all made a commitment that will only be realized when our students graduate from a 4 year college.
My Project
I want my mathematicians to feel valued. I want them to be able to find the angles in a triangle if I give them the sides. I want them to use parentheses when solving order of operations equations or physics equations of momentum. I want to provide my students with everything I had, because they deserve the best!
As things stand right now, I do not have enough working calculators for every student in my class.
I have asked some of my stronger math students to sacrifice their calculator access so that my developing math students can feel more confident in their abilities. This is not fair. Everyone has the right to a calculator in 7th grade math, and I feel as though I am letting my students down.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
