My Students
As a 21st century educator, I need access to 21st century resources to maximize my students' learning experience. Before our resources were limited to books and our imaginations. But today we have a new resource- the Internet. My classroom desperately needs an LCD projector to help help my students.
My students come from many diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds in Sacramento, CA.
All my classes seem like a small representative slice of the world we live in. As much as they learn from other teachers and me, I believe their learning experience is enriched by learning from each other and sharing their ideas and views. Despite their diverse backgrounds, they all are animated and motivated individuals. Everyday is a small adventure for me as a teacher. They genuinely make my job fun.
I have worked at low performing schools, but my students at our school have the attitude they need for success. I believe it is my job as a teacher to help them maximize their talents. To do so, it is my job to make classroom lessons efficient, productive, and interesting. While my students have goals to attend a full university, and the motivation and attitude to get them there, what they do not have is the resources at our site. We need to give them a 21st century learning experience.
My Project
My previous school site won a grant from apple that brought our site into the 21st century. Teachers were trained to use technology in the classroom to increase performance. Most of our changes revolved around the computer and Internet. As part of our adjustment we changed our lessons from the blackboard to PowerPoint, games from paper to computer screen, and homework assignments from paper to paperless. And we saw results.
Today I teach at a higher performing site, with higher performing students, and involved parents. However, one piece from my instruction is missing- the technology. Unfortunately my new school does not get some of the special funds lower performing schools do. We are left to teach with outdated books and resources. I know that students learn more efficiently with modern resources. I have the lessons, the ideas, and the training to bring these resources to my students. However, I need one key piece: An LCD PROJECTOR. It will give my students access to better lessons.
An LCD projector allows me to do many things in the classroom.
It gives students an easier means to receive a lesson. I can demonstrate how the internet can help them in preparing their assignments and reinforce what they learn. I have access to discovery learning which gives me hundred of video, tutorials, and and activities I can show to my students. Games to enhance learning are also available on the computer. Unfortunately, without an LCD projector I cannot utilize these resources.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
