My students need a CardMaster Card Reader to help master sight words from their reading.

My Students
With all the talk about our education system failing children, class size increasing, and lowered test scores, what is a teacher to do? Many of my students are falling behind in their reading due to their limited sight word vocabulary and decoding skills. It takes 1-on-1 attention to learn new words
In fact, a lot of Kindergarten requires 1-on-1 attention which at times is very difficult to provide.
I have 17 students this year and that tends to increase as the year goes on. Our classroom is a mix of ESOL students, Special Education, 30% free and reduced lunch, and a few receiving speech services. With such vast and varying needs it is up to me to provide their education in as many mediums as possible. Also, some of my students go home to their siblings putting dinner on the table and no other opportunities for extended learning. Our language block is the only time for me to cram as much learning as possible when it comes to reading skills. This is where you can help me!
My Project
The way I have set up our language arts block allows for me to move around to help children individually or in a small group. In order to do this, the rest of the students need to be participating in meaningful and helpful learning activities. With this Card Reader that I am requesting, students could be doing just that! The Card Reader is essentially a tool that reads a magnetic strip and plays a recorded audio sound. It would allow me to prerecord sight words on cards, have the children read them, record their voice, and then hear my voice feedback immediately. No more reading flash cards and hoping they are getting them right, now with today's technology I can be tutoring my children 1-on-1 even if I am leading a literacy group! Being in two places at once? Isn't that every teacher's dream come true?
This one piece of technology would really help my students to better master sight words and in doing so will help ensure they do not fall behind in their reading.
It is hard to watch a child sound out words such as "the" and "are" to no avail, but with the Card Reader each of my students will be able to have enough practice and repetition to memorize such crucial words. My students and I would appreciate any donation towards this project, and we hope you consider us!
