This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it felt like to be squinting at the board from the back of the room when you were a student? These days, students have the opportunity to not only see clearly, but to become active participants in their learning - with the help of proper technology.
My 7th grade math students come to school eager to learn.
Throughout each class, my students work to learn, discuss, and engage with each other. As can be expected in the 7th grade, there is always laughter, a lot of energy, and a million emotions. As a team, we try to make learning fun, and approachable.
Our school is limited, however, in the technology it is able to provide for its students. We are a Title 1 school, and we have 96% of our students on a free/reduced price lunch. My students deserve to be part of an engaging and fun classroom environment.
My Project
Every day when my students come in, we work together to explore and study new material. Currently, I write on a blackboard and have students engage by following along and completing their own set of notes. What if my students were about to come up and demonstrate the work they had already completed, instead of calling out or copying answers over? What if they could demonstrate their knowledge in an efficient and clear way, that not only kept students' attention, but also increased accountability for the quality of each student's individual work? The possibilities are enormous! I have a projector in my classroom but need this visual presenter to enhance the student experience. With the addition of an Elmo, I will have all the tools necessary to engage students in such a creative way.
