This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a fully inclusive Kindergarten classroom in an urban setting. Over 70% of my students are learning English as a second language and are below the poverty line.
My students need many different opportunities to use and explore language on a daily basis.
I am extending our unit of study on our community to build upon one of their passions: construction. I am hoping to turn our dramatic play area into a construction site with a workbench and tools; however, there is no money in the budget for things that are not part of the “core curriculum”.
My Project
I would want to be able to provide my students with tools, goggles, workbench, and construction vehicles that will enable them to act out different scenarios in our dramatic play area. This will ensure rich language development and the ability for all of my students to interact with each other and build upon their limited English vocabulary.
Please help me teach and foster the language development with all of the students in my classroom.
I believe that each student should be given the opportunities they need to be successful in school, and I just need the tools to do so.
