My students need to publish their poetry and short stories in these homemade books using a binding machine.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Please publish poetry! Students in AP Spanish Language practice their creative writing by having their poetry and short stories "published" in books that are bound. They can then read each others' work.
The population at our high school are primarily Latino, first-generation (they will be the first to attend college), and come from low-income backgrounds.
They attend our charter high school because of the high expectations. Our mission is to prepare ALL students for college. The Advanced Placement (AP) Spanish Language students in my classes are determined to improve their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, as well as pass the AP exam administered by the College Board in May of 2012. The students in my classes are primarily juniors (11th grade), but there are also sophomores and some seniors.
My Project
The students at our school are very motivated. They want to continue on to college. Writing is an essential component for the advanced placement (AP) class as well as for college. In order to motivate them to write more, it is important for them to see their work published. Additionally, it is important for them to be able to express themselves through writing, other than essays and reports.
One of my students read a poem about his childhood after having read Vicente Alexaindre's (from Spain) poem "Adolescence".
He wrote about how nobody believed in him when he was little, but now he's being successful in school and his music. He was pleasantly surprised when I shared it with other students and they clapped for him. If we can publish every students' poem or short story, it would allow students to share their experiences in a creative manner.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
