My students need engaging and inquiry-based materials focused on genetics, physics, and cells so they can explore science in our under-resourced classroom!
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. S.'s classroom raised $776

My Students
How do you make science fun for middle school students? You make it hands-on so that students do the exploring! Unfortunately, my school, which was the second lowest performing in the city last year, lacks many resources, including science lab materials and kits.
My scholars are bright, motivated, and eager to learn.
They come from high-poverty backgrounds and attend what was the second lowest-performing school in the city last year (it has now been converted into a charter). They have a thirst for knowledge and for involving themselves in the learning! They continually tell me that THEY want "to do the science" by having more labs.
My Project
My scholars will finally have the opportunity to explore science that all children deserve with these lab kits and materials. Science investigations will come alive for these young minds as they will be able to do labs that directly correspond with state standards and grade level expectations. Understanding cells and their functions as well as genetics will be made real and comprehensible to my 7th graders while my 6th graders will have real-experience now and be able to explain various physics motion concepts.
My scholars WILL become the young scientists I envision them as with these important science resources.
Everyday my scholars eagerly and expectantly ask me: Are we doing a lab today?
Unfortunately, more often that not, I have to tell them "no" simply because we don't have the materials. My scholars want, deserve, and need science kits and lab materials to make the subject come alive. The spark of curiosity is alive and strong within these students. These materials will foster their intellectual curiosity, keep that excited look on their faces, and put these scholars on the path to college!
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
