Bringing 21st Century Technology Into Our Science Classroom
My students need a DVD/VCR player as well as science DVDs, such as Bill Nye Genetics and Fetal Rat Dissection, to support their daily instructional activities.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. C.'s classroom raised $393

My Students
Help us see the future! In our classroom we are in dire need of a DVD and VCR player. With this technology we will be able to not only watch instructional videos, but participate in interactive technology-based lab activities and dissections.
Our students are 97% low income minorities.
Most of these students have limited access to the technology that is commonplace in our world. They are eager to learn and love hands-on and interactive activities.
Our school is located in the heart of Chicago, in an underprivileged community lacking libraries and cultural venues. These students really need your help so that they can excel and become positive contributors to society.
My Project
We are requesting a DVD/VCR combo and two DVD's. The first DVD is of a fetal rat dissection. Students will be learning about the digestive system and other organs of the body from this virtual dissection DVD.
Students so often see rats within the community, for the first time we will be able to use them for a positive purpose. The second DVD is for the students to understand the basics of genetics and heredity. Several students are affected with Sickle Cell Anemia, and we will spend time learning about this genetic disease that affects minority populations, and how through genetic testing the incidence of passing this trait on can be reduced.
This project is vital because it gives our students an opportunity to learn about real world problems that they would not normally have access to.
Media is their window to the world, and having the technology to present it is critical to their academic and social development. Too often what they see on television is negative; we want to bring to them positive resources and learning experiences that will enrich their lives.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
