Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students do not have many chances to engage in scientific investigation and experimentation.
I teach a seventh-grade life science class in an inner-city school.
Most of my students come from low-income households in which they have limited resources. The school I teach at also has limited resources so it is difficult to engage my students in science. The students enjoy learning science but often ask how and when they are going to get a chance to engage on hands-on science (experiments and dissections). I would love the opportunity to promote the importance and excitement of science education through dissections.
My Project
I am requesting preserved frogs for my students to dissect. They will be learning about the digestive and circulatory systems so the dissection would be an exciting culminating activity. Through the dissection they will have the opportunity to actually engage in hands-on learning. My former students dissected frogs last year and they explained that it helped them understand the organs of the digestive system better.
Science education is extremely important for our students and our country.
I would appreciate any donations that will help me make science fun so that my students feel comfortable engaging in other science-related activities.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
