Our rug is 10 years old! That's ten year's worth of dirt accumulated. Each year, I have more students with severe allergies. Having a new rug will improve the health of my students.
I teach 5 year-old Kindergarten in rural South Carolina.
My students are bright and inquisitive. We are a Title One school with 93% of Kindergarten students receiving free/reduced lunch. Our school was featured on South Carolina's ETV's "Corridor of Shame." All of our funds for this school year have been frozen.
My Project
My students spend much of their day on the floor. We sit on the floor during our morning routine. We sit on the floor during story time - at least three times a day. Some of us sit on the floor during center time. We sit on the floor to recap our day.
We have had our current rug for ten years. It gets cleaned twice a year but now it is time for a new one.
More and more students have serious allergy problems.
Ten years worth of dirt is hard to get out. Our playground is extremely sandy. A new rug would help alleviate some of these problems. Thank you in advance for helping to improve the health of my students.
