FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Z.'s classroom raised $318
This project is fully funded
Our students are currently in great need of science materials to supplement our text books. We have a very limited supply of materials, and these materials don't allow us to engage the students in hands-on learning in science. Getting involved in science is a great way for our students to understand problem solving, investigation, and analysis, all skills that are easily transferable to other subject areas - and real life.
According to the National Science Foundation, studies show that "Improvements in U.S. student performance in mathematics and science have been uneven. In both mathematics and science, most students did not reach the proficient performance level, a level denoting solid performance for their grade based on judgments of what students should know and be able to do in the subject assessed...Performance disparities in mathematics and science are evident among many student subgroups. Students from disadvantaged backgrounds lagged behind, with these disparities starting as early as kindergarten, persisting across grades, and in some cases, widening over time."
With 75% of our students classified as English language learners, we can't rely on only our text books to teach our students these concepts, and we would like to be able to get them more engaged and involved in their learning.
We would love to purchase a science classroom kit for our students that can be used over and over again each year.
I thank you in advance for considering helping our students get engaged in science!
