Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a high-need school that has seen its fair share of hardship. Three years ago the school was on the verge of closing down. Now we are a choice school. We draw the attention of those around us because we have a student population who are motivated to take their lives to the next step through a college education.
Teaching three levels of science without any working microscopes is like trying to paint without a paint brush. Students can grasp the theoretical ideas of biology, but without seeing it for themselves they will have a much harder time putting it in context.
Our students need to be given the opportunity to see the things that form the basic units of life and the world around them. We need 5 microscopes to start. While this is a only a small number it will make a huge difference. These will allow EVERY student to see with their own eyes what they have only seen in pictures.
You will make an enormous difference in the academic and emotional lives of my students. Through your giving they will see the smallest units of life and be prepared to pass their state tests, and ready to take their next steps on to college. My students will also feel a great sense of pride and thankfulness that there are people in the world who still care for them.
