My students need colored pencils, paint pens, and blank CDs and DVDs for our Writing Workshop and other class activities.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. S.'s classroom raised $255
This project is fully funded
I teach all subjects in a fifth grade classroom. Our school is a high-need community with around 80% on free or reduced lunch. Our major businesses in town have closed within the last five or six years, which means those families are struggling to make ends meet with entry level positions at other jobs or they are going through retraining at our community college and receiving aid. We are a public school in a district with eight elementary schools. Our school is focusing on reading and writing which have been our low test score areas.
In writing workshop, we are trying to get the students to improve their writing skills by writing every day. In order to increase their excitement, I am trying to have them "publish" their works and share them with other classrooms, in our library, in doctors' offices in town, etc. Our district cut back on supplies though, and it is impossible for the majority of my students to bring in their own colored pencils or other supplies. They are motivated to write because they know we are going to publish, but now we need the materials in order to complete it.
We need colored pencils for illustrations and paint pens in order to do the covers of our books which are done with contact paper or wallpaper covers. We try to make them durable and long lasting so many kids will be able to read them. In addition, I am hoping to get them to use the computer to make digital books and even a movie of their book that can be shown to other classes as well. This will benefit my students in that I've already seen their writing improve in quantity, and this will give them a reason to improve the quality. I know having others see their work will be a big boost to their self-esteem and pride in what they do.
With your help, you will make it possible for students to publish their works and take pride in what they have accomplished. You will enable them to share their success with the community.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
