Rockin' In The Mornin'

My students need microphones and an amp that can support a keyboard and the microphones for their sound system.

What better way to start the day than by "Rockin' Out" in the morning before school starts. I teach music and we are participants in the "Little Kids Rock" guitar program. Our school is in Illinois and is located in the highest crime, lowest socioeconomic area of a city. The goal of this project is to teach the students that they have something to offer. They can be a part of building up their community by voluntarily providing mini concerts to people less fortunate than themselves. They can be a positive force in the community.

Our students are listening to President Obama's call to use their skills to give back to their community as volunteers. The students come in every day from 7:30am - 8:30am. They have been preparing to go out and provide mini concerts at senior homes and children's hospitals. Every day our students face violence, drugs and gang activity. They need to see that they have the power to change their environment.

Microphones and an amp will enable them to be heard as they travel to different locations. They are faithfully putting in the rehearsal time. It's time to put this show on the road. Our "Rockers" are waiting for their chance to perform: at school during assemblies, in the community for our senior citizens, in hospitals for sick children, and at sister schools. These performances will give them self confidence and self esteem. They will build inter-generational relationships.

Please help these students learn that they have something to contribute to society. They can make a difference in the lives of others. You can make it possible for my students to begin the practice of giving back at an early age so that it becomes a way of life for them.
