My Kindergartners form a diverse community of learners including English language learners, mainstreamed special needs students as well as students who are attending a school experience for the very first time. We are our district's lowest socioeconomical school, 100% free lunch, and a title one school.
My students learn best when they are given numerous opportunities to learn material in a variety of ways. A literacy listening learning center would do just that. By exposing my students to auditory material that has been previously presented to them visually, they will have another opportunity for further comprehension. Being able to access a listening center independently will provide my students with extra reinforcement of skills in language and listening, and allow me to work with students individually on differentiated lessons.
We have earphones left over from years past, but lack a tape recorder and proper organizational storage, as well as a jack to plug it all together. I have a few tape recordings that I have made of books, but would like my students to have the opportunity to hear some rhymes and chants that are professionally recorded with music and background sound effects. The listening alphabet phonics game would be a perfect way to practice and reinforce the letter sounds we are learning in our state reading adoption.
By funding this project, you will be giving my students the opportunity to learn in a fun and dynamic way. Children have many different learning styles and we are asking you to help these children who would benefit from an auditory literacy link.
