My students need 28 enclosed solar cells to use in an electricity lab.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. McCotter's classroom raised $466
This project is fully funded
In order to create a "Greener America" we need to bring green technology into the classroom.
Students in my classes study the basics of electricity. We like to use as many hands-on opportunities as possible. In one lab, we use several batteries and hook them up to various circuits. We learn how to calculate current, voltage, power, and even how much your electric bill might be next month. The problem is that our lab has become a bit outdated. At the same time we are teaching students that we "should be" using renewable resources for electricity, we continue to throw away dozens of batteries every year. We are missing a golden opportunity to bring current events from the real world into the classroom.
The simple solution to our problem came from a student in my class. "Mr. M., we really should be using solar cells instead of batteries. That would make this lab cool." Of course, the problem is that solar cells cost about eleven bucks each, while batteries are under a dollar. With school budgets the way they are, we've been supplying our lab with the less expensive option for years. We need a little help getting this project off the ground.
With a class set of solar cells, we can inspire a whole new generation of students to become more environmentally friendly. More importantly, we will better prepare them to understand a technology which is sure to take over the world of electricity for decades to come.
