FULLY FUNDED! Ms. G.'s classroom raised $912
This project is fully funded
Yoga in the classroom!! I teach first grade in a high-need, low income school. Towards the end of last year, I started doing Yoga with my students and I noticed a positive change in the attitudes of my students. I would like to start this year doing Yoga on a daily basis.
My students face several stresses and anxieties that seven year olds do not need to worry about. These stresses and anxieties negatively affect their academic success. Yoga will help them become more relaxed and comfortable in the classroom, in turn increasing their academics and attitudes.
I need 29 Yoga mats and position cards. In the beginning of the year, I will teach the poses as a class. As the kids become comfortable with the poses I will allow them to visit the Yoga Center in my classroom when they feel that they are stressed or anxious. While at the Yoga Center students will be completing the poses independently, so the position cards will be helpful.
Your help will provide my students with an outlet when they are feeling stressed or anxious. Students in my school community, usually resort to violence when they are worked up. Teaching them Yoga will provide them with another alternative instead of fighting.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
More than half of students from low‑income households
