"Okay class, gather around my laptop to view the Power Point..." This is the situation I find myself in for my AP Biology class. Our low income level urban high school district has been hit especially hard during the recession and we have suffered severe budget cuts. Such drastic cuts that we no longer have access to LCD projectors.
Imagine this dilemma when you have students you are preparing to enter college, university, and trade school where the majority of their classes will be taught through Power Point and other digital media!
My plan was to show students how to take notes from Power Point presentations that mimic those they will see when they get to college. I was also planning to show students lectures from websites such as Academic Earth so they can see first hand how college lectures are held. Both of these goals are impossible to reach without an LCD projector.
Through your donation, you will give these 50 students a new level of comfort with the technology that some other districts have as standard in all classrooms! Not only will they be spectators in this technology, for many of their projects, they will use the projector to present their findings to their classmates. Again, this allows these students to become comfortable using technology that is taken for granted in the business and the collegiate world. These advantages could mean the difference to a student staying in college and a student dropping out.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
