How many times have you heard, "But Mom just write a check for it."
I currently work with 4th and 5th graders in the subject area of math. They are a highly motivated and active group of students
I believe I have found a way to motivate them even more while instilling in them the idea of money management.
Bank On It is a student/teacher run banking program, where the students will run a bank, be able to write checks to make purchases or pay bills, and maintain their individual checking accounts. The students are in charge of making all the necessary items for the bank such as the registries and the checks.
The students will earn a weekly paycheck based on their behavior, grades, or if they happen to hold a particular job for the week. They will learn how to save their money, write a check correctly, fill out a check registry, and keep a running balance of positive and negative numbers.
The store will consist of smaller items such as pencils, folders, paper, notebooks, candy and other small items. The store will also have other big ticket items that will encourage students to spend their money wisely if they want the MP3 player.
You will make it possible for my students to learn the value of the dollar and the responsibility of saving or spending their money wisely on items that they truly may want.
