Thank you for your interest in my project! I'm a School Psychologist that work in a very high-needs community in Illinois. For the past two years, I've been running an Anger Coping Program at our school. I meet with students in groups of 5-6, and we work on identifying anger triggers, physiological responses to anger, choices and consequences, as well as many other areas in which our students are experiencing difficulty.
The students have responded amazingly well to this curriculum. As a matter of fact, teacher ratings have consistently shown improvements in behavior and grades after the students complete this program.
One significant obstacle, however, has been the absence of a video recorder. Part of the curriculum asks that our students write, direct, and film scenarios that will help them identify and rehearse situations that elicit anger. This is the culminating activity of the group, and thus far, our students have not had the opportunity to show us what they have learned in a fun, meaningful project.
Research on this program indicates that the video component allows the students to take pride and ownership in what they have learned and leaves a lasting impression on these students!
