Help 100 Katrina Kids! Reading can truly change their lives. I teach 7th grade Reading in a high poverty middle school in a Louisiana city that was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina. I would like to give my wonderful students a reading library.
I will be setting up a new reading class next year. Many of my students lost everything in Katrina. They were scattered across the country, and now they are trying to rebuild their school, community, and their lives.
By donating to our class library project, you would make it possible for my students to have a full classroom library set of books for grades 6-7. My program will be called Paws for Reading. My students will read 20 minutes a day for 5 days a week throughout the school year. They will also be encouraged to read over the summer. Reading is so very important for their school progress and having books interesting to them is one way we can encourage them.
You can really make a difference in the lives of these children. Please partner with my class to help them want to read for a lifetime. I know that learning to read well is the key for success for these children to help them move from poverty to success in their lives.
