So much to learn, so little time! My 6th grade students are primarily high-need and low-income. I am working hard to reach all types of learners and improve test scores in my classroom.
My school is struggling to reach different types of learners, improve test scores, and make Annual Yearly Progress. My students have so much to learn - and not nearly enough time! In order to engage my students more effectively and use our time more efficiently, I have been setting up learning centers for the students to work in while I do small group guided reading. We get a lot accomplished and the kids have a lot of fun. It works very well - if I have enough quality activities!
I would like to expand my learning centers/guided reading system to be an every day activity. In order to do this, I need more quality materials and activities. The items I have chosen are primarily hands-on and are high interest. These activities can be used independently in small groups, allowing my entire classroom to be engaged and learning while I am giving focused instruction to small groups. I am also easily able to differentiate instruction for my different types of learners, which means more learning is happening!
By helping to fund this project, you will allow my students and I to use our time more efficiently. As a direct result of having these materials available, my students will be learning more and I will be teaching more effectively. The kids in my classroom have so much working against them. I feel this would be an opportunity to give them an advantage, for once! Funding this project will directly impact the quality of education that my students are receiving.
