Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I like them, I like them, Sam I Am! I will read them in my desk, I will read with verve and zest, I will read them in my chair, I will read books anywhere!
I teach 50 incredible, driven learners who are learning English as their second (or sometimes third!) language. My students come from a high-needs community and are almost all immigrants.
Even though they are in sixth grade, most of my students read English at a first to fourth grade level. They love to read and go through my library with gusto, but its difficult to find low-level books that will hold the interest of an eleven year old! I need to create a high-interest low-level library so that my students can grow as readers with books they really WANT to read.
I need to appeal to a wide range of students. A Dr. Seuss library will allow students to explore poetry and engaging storylines while the simplistic language and rhymes support their ability to read on their own. A TIME for Kids subscription will provide an ever-growing array of exciting nonfiction and current events texts for my students who otherwise wouldn't be able to keep up with the grade-level nonfiction texts.

What a great treat to introduce a new generation of readers to his wonderful books while supporting their reading growth at the same time. Your support will ensure that my lower level students don't fall farther behind and can discover the fun of reading for themselves.
