My students need 30 copies of "The Lightning Thief".
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. W.'s classroom raised $318

The imagination of a child enriched with the stories of mythology is a powerful thing. I teach 7th grade Reading in Florida, and many of my students are being hit hard by the economy in today's society.
To ask for my students to purchase one or more copies of the book may be hard for some, but easy for others. I feel that this vehicle, especially, will be a valuable tool to teach them the gratitude of giving; not only giving books, but giving an education. You would be introducing young adults to the classical world of mythology. Some of the kids- from my lower economic students to my culturally diverse students- may never be exposed to mythology on their own. A whole classical study cannot be lost to future generations. With a series of books as good as Rick Riordan's (with an ADHD, teenage boy main character, who many students will identify with), it will give many young adult readers insight to a whole new world.
All that is needed is a class set- 30 books- of Rick Riordan's "The Lightning Thief". I will do the rest. I have already created a unit of study with our literature textbook and nonfiction resources. With this trade paperback, they will be able to see a new, creative approach to discovering mythological characters, with a fresh, new title geared toward their age group. It will also give them a chance to experience more creative ways to write fiction, and I would love for my Language Arts kids to practice writing as creatively as Rick Riordan.
There is also a series of books after "Lightning Thief" by Riordan that build on his main character's experiences, uncovering a deeper plot each time. After your donation of this book, you may be building lifelong readers, one child at a time. Is there a better feeling than that?
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
