Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach algebra to an amazing group of 60 8th grade students in a high need, urban school. Our school has been on the forefront of helping students in our low income community to reach academic achievement, and to fulfill their full potential.
My school has recently overcome many obstacles in order to acquire a laptop (although outdated), and an LCD projector for our classroom. I've been trying relentlessly to use the powers of this technology as much as possible. Every time I use this technology in a new way (with a new fancy animation to show the Pythagorean theorem on PowerPoint, or by twirling a 3-D picture of a cube to find surface area) their engagement SKYROCKETS! But, my powers to use technology to engage my students are limited to a laptop and an LCD projector.
With a wireless tablet, my students and I will have the power to control presentations from around the room, show our work on a problem in front of the class without even leaving our seat, or control a timer for the warm up without leaving the classmates that we are helping. The possibilities are absolutely endless for this technology in our classroom!
My administration and myself, with our very limited budgets, can only do so much. With your help, the boundless power of this new technology can be realized in our classroom. It will increase my students' engagement, improve the clarity of my lessons & presentations, and ultimately raise my students' achievement. Thank you so much for your consideration of funding our proposal!
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
