WEAVING A GOOD STORY
Our high needs middle school students need your support, as well as ours. I teach Social Studies and Art to some of the most interesting people I have ever met.
Despite the many difficulties our children face on a daily basis, our school has shown steady, solid improvements in both math and reading for two years straight. We are determined to maintain this trend.
This year, we are attempting to create school-wide enrichment programs that will support and grow our students reading and math skills while expanding their interests and tweaking their curiosity about the world they will soon inherit.
To this end I need your help in purchasing supplies for my small afternoon crew. We are going to learn how to weave our own wall hangings. We want to create tapestries and we want to gab about stories, and life in general. Eventually we might even discover that stories are built just like the tapestries we are creating – row upon row, and layer after layer, creating a personal statement.
First we must become familiar with the knots we will need to use, and the rhythms of the loom. Then, while we weave, we will listen to short stories on cd’s, and share our opinions about characters, make plot predictions, and share personal connections to the author’s artwork.
I have the radio, and can afford to buy the cd’s, even the beads and feathers to embellish the wall hangings, but getting the looms and the yarns is beyond me. I need your help to make this happen.
Thank you for your time and interest.
