My students need to have seven book bundles and 15 dictionaries available to them that will help them complete projects that we do throughout the school year within the classroom.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. B.'s classroom raised $510
This project is fully funded
I teach 6th grade Science in an urban school district in Maryland, and many of my students aspire to become doctors, lawyers, and teachers.
Our school has limited funds for the Science Library that I am trying to build in my classroom. Many times throughout the year, while completing projects in our school library, my students have expressed an interest in different types of books that have something to do with science; whether science fiction, science reference, or just fact books. The books that are available in our library are usually needed by the entire student body (about 900 students) during the same time frame. This presents a HUGE problem if a book really hooks my students interests.
The resources that I need are trade books, dictionaries, reference books, and the like. With a classroom library that would serve just the 6th grade students that I see, the problem of not being able to check out books that interest my students would be taken care of. My students would not have to ask for a pass to go to the library to do research on their own and would be able to ask me questions while they work. It would be a win-win situation for all of us; I would be able to make sure the students understand their projects, and the students would have me available to ask questions and guide them through their projects.
You can make it possible to open up a new world to my students. Not only are the books based on Science, but I also will be including science fiction books for them. The majority of them are not exposed to complete works of science fiction. They have a natural love of science and figuring out how things work, interact, and impact each other. Your support would keep that spark alive.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
