My project needs digital recorders for a project my students are doing involving recording interviews with Veterans, the families of veterans, and people who have lived in armed-forces communities. The students will be recording interviews and then editing the audio for placement on a website in order to archive the stories of those who have served.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. B.'s classroom raised $440

I am an 8th Grade Social Studies teacher who focuses on American History from 1700-1870. My school is a 7th and 8th grade middle school compromised of a very diverse (ethnic, economic, racial, etc) population. We are located near Fort Lewis and McCord Air Force base.
Our school is made up largely of military families...yet Veteran's Day has, in my four years at the school, gone virtually unnoticed. After going to a speech by World War II Veteran Donald Malarkey (of Band of Brothers fame) I found myself inspired to do something to save the stories of America's Veterans. Upon returning to school my students asked where I had been and when I told them they showed an interest in the stories I had heard and the idea of archiving them for future generations. So the idea to record, archive, and share the stories of Veterans, their families, and those who have lived in Armed Services communities was hatched. Our goal was to do something not only for Veteran's Day, but also to create a resource that future students and community members could add to, learn from, and enjoy.
We need digital audio recorders so that students can go and get their interviews. By being part of this project students will be connected with their families and friends both inside and outside of school, their communities, and provide a community service. They will benefit not only in the aforementioned ways, but also in areas of creativity (planning and conducting the interviews), technology (editing the audio, building the website), and hopefully create something they will be proud of.
This project is a must for our school. With a controversial war taking place, of which many of our families are directly involved with, the act of collecting, archiving, sharing, and celebrating the lessons learned/stories of those who have served will provide our community with a source of knowledge and pride for Veteran's Day and beyond.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
