In order to give my students hands on learning of a variety of math skills and inform their parents about the different skills being taught at school, my class needs a variety of math manipulatives, such as dice, counters, numbered spinners, and playing cards and the containers to hold them.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. W.'s classroom raised $247
This project is fully funded
I work in a wonderful self-contained classroom with students who have been labeled emotionally and behaviorally challenged. My phenomenal group of students are between the 3rd and 5th grade.
The students in my class are having a challenging time learning basic math facts such as subtraction and addition of whole numbers, place value, etc. This hinders their learning, and these students want to learn. They REALLY want to learn.
To help them learn and continue being the smartest kids in math, I would like to have family math nights once a month. I would use the activities provided in this grant to create a variety of small group centers. Once the students are successful with the new skills or expectations with how to use the manipulatives, we will then teach their parents fun ways to help build on math skills at home. We will also invite other students during the school day to participate during our math block to allow the students the chance to "show off" their new math skills. These interactions will boost their personal level of expectation of themselves and help them retain more information, making them Smarter Math Students!!!
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
