I am currently a 6th grade bilingual teacher at a diverse school just across the border from Chicago. My students represent a variety of ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds. I teach Literature and Language Arts as well as Spanish For Spanish Soeakers classes (to native and non-native speakers). The majority of my bilingual students are conversationally fluent in English but lack academic English and really struggle with reading and writing. Unfortunately, the skill of reading is key to every single other subject so science and social studies are difficult as well. Our school is a small neighborhood school with a flock of dedicated, hard-working teachers and administrators who are very committed. Thank you for joining us on our quest to make our students the smartest in our city!
