When graduating from Illinois State in May, I entered my summer prepared to teach 3rd grade in the fall. With only 16 days until my first day with students, I have learned that I will be switching from teaching 3rd grade to 1st grade! I have collected many materials to help my 3rd graders be successful, but now I would like to do the same to ensure that my first grade friends have an exciting, comfortable, and successful school year in my classroom. I would like to provide my students with a variety of grade level books, to help instill a love for reading in them. I would also like to collect many wonderful mentor texts to encourage learning through read alouds as a class. For example, “A Classic Case of Dr. Seuss”, where I will be able to supply my students with multiple classic Dr. Seuss texts. In addition to the reading materials, I would like to bring Science to life in my classroom by providing my students with STEM (science, technology, engineering, & math) bins. Materials that promote coding, creativity and excitement can help bring a spark to students eyes when they think about Science. This would include a coding robot mouse, “Learning Resources Code & Go Robot Mouse Activity Set”.
