Because of you, my students now have the opportunity to move, focus, and learn in ways that truly fit their needs. The FitDesk Standing Exercise Bike Desks you helped fund have transformed our classroom into a space where movement and learning work together — a place where students can pedal their way toward focus, creativity, and success.\r\n\r\nI teach an energetic and curious group of learners who love to explore new ideas, collaborate with one another, and discover how things work. Our classroom is always buzzing with laughter, teamwork, and curiosity. Many of my students are at their best when they can move while they think — whether it’s fidgeting, standing, stretching, or walking in place as they read. These new bike desks meet that need perfectly. They allow students to channel their energy in a positive way while staying engaged and attentive.\r\n\r\nWhen we first introduced the FitDesks, the excitement was immediate. Students were fascinated by the idea that they could move and learn at the same time. After our first rotation, one student proudly said, “I can actually think better when I pedal!” Others commented that they felt calmer, more focused, and even happier during lessons. For students who often struggle to sit still or stay on task, the ability to gently move while reading or working has made a world of difference.\r\n\r\nThe bike desks are quiet and easy to use, fitting naturally into our classroom routine. During independent reading, math practice, or writing time, students can take turns at our new “Pedal and Learn” station. They’re learning to self-regulate and recognize when movement helps them focus best. It’s been incredible to see how much ownership they take of their learning when they have options that work for their bodies and brains.\r\n\r\nBeyond the academic benefits, the FitDesks have brought joy and wellness into our classroom. Students love setting small goals — like reading a certain number of pages or completing a math challenge while pedaling. They cheer one another on, track their progress, and celebrate effort as much as achievement. The bikes have even inspired meaningful conversations about health, balance, and the importance of taking care of both mind and body.\r\n\r\nFor some of my students, especially those who benefit from sensory input or need help managing focus, these bikes have been a game-changer. Instead of being asked to sit still, they now have a positive, productive outlet for movement. I’ve seen quieter students gain confidence, energetic students channel their enthusiasm into learning, and everyone build a deeper understanding of how their bodies help their brains learn.\r\n\r\nOur school values the whole child, but our resources are limited. Before this project, we had only a few flexible seating options. The FitDesks have added variety, choice, and excitement to our learning space. They make our classroom feel more inclusive — a place where every student can find their own best way to learn.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has done more than fund equipment; it has created opportunity, motivation, and joy. You’ve given my students the gift of movement, focus, and confidence — tools that will serve them far beyond our classroom walls. Each time a student pedals through a story, practices math facts while cycling, or smiles because they’ve found their rhythm, I’m reminded of the kindness that made it all possible.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in the power of hands-on, hearts-in learning. Because of you, our students are growing stronger minds and healthier bodies every single day. You’ve turned our classroom into a place where learning moves — literally! — and for that, we are endlessly grateful.","photopaths":null},{"proposalId":9866288,"teacherName":"Ms. Goldberg","teacherPossessiveName":"Ms. Goldberg's","teacherPhoto":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7385613_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=34&height=34&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1701402191322","schoolName":"Connolly Elementary School","city":"Glen Cove","state":"NY","title":"Planting for the Planet","impactNote":"Dear Power Home Remodeling,\n\nYou are our hero!! The cozy socks and delicious hot chocolate have already made a remarkable difference in their daily routines from the walk to school to enjoying quiet moments indoors. Your thoughtful support ensures they stay warm, safe, and comfortable all season long.\r\n\r\nOne of the first moments we noticed the impact was during recess. As soon as the students received their new socks, they eagerly slipped them on and couldn’t stop smiling about how soft and warm they felt. In previous winters, many of them would have come inside early to warm up their cold feet, but now they can stay outside longer and play comfortably. The hot chocolate has become an instant favorite, it’s the perfect treat to warm up after a chilly morning or to enjoy during a cozy classroom activity.\r\n\r\nWhen the new winter items arrived, the excitement in the classroom was contagious. The students couldn’t wait to try on their new socks and talk about which flavor of hot chocolate they liked best. Seeing their gratitude and joy was heartwarming. The look on their faces when they realized they’d have everything they need to stay warm was priceless. Your support has made a significant and meaningful difference in our math classroom, and I want to thank Power Home Remodeling specifically for investing in our students.\r\n\r\nBecause of Power Home Remodeling’s contribution of items for our class store, my students now have a hands-on, engaging way to practice important math skills. As they earn classroom “money” and use it to purchase items, they are actively applying addition, subtraction, comparing costs, budgeting, and planning—skills that become much more concrete when used in a real-world context. Your donation has transformed routine lessons into exciting opportunities for students to see how math truly works in everyday life.\r\n\r\nPower Home Remodeling’s commitment to giving back to the community is clearly reflected in the positive impact this has had on our class. Students are not only improving their math proficiency but are also developing foundational money-management skills. They are learning to set goals, save for items they want, make thoughtful choices, and keep accurate financial records. These experiences will benefit them long after they leave my classroom.\r\n\r\nThe items you provided have also helped build a more positive and motivated classroom culture. In addition, snack bags will be sent home just to bridge the gap for students who are struggling with food disparities. The students really enjoyed \"The First Day Farts\" book. The purpose of this book was to gain a love for reading through humor and it did just that! They also enjoyed the book, \"This Is a Terrible Book\" the goal for this book was also accomplished. The students really liked listening to me read it and interacting with the story. We have not yet read all the books, but students really show an interest in them, and this was the plan for having read aloud books in our classroom!\r\n\r\nWe received so many donations from you and are so grateful. The students love the headphones and are so determined to earn the snacks and candy by completing their schoolwork and assignments. This plan was a true success. Your support has made a profound impact on my students and the learning environment we strive to create every day.\r\n\r\nAs a teacher, I see firsthand how even small resources can make a big difference in the lives of students. Your donation of Chromebook chargers may seem like a simple contribution, but to my students, it means uninterrupted learning, access to their assignments, and the ability to stay connected with their lessons, especially when technology plays such a vital role in today’s education. Many of my students rely on their Chromebooks not only for schoolwork but also for staying engaged, submitting assignments, and collaborating with classmates. Thanks to your generosity, those who had been struggling with broken or missing chargers now have the tools they need to stay on track.\r\n\r\nYour donation of food was equally meaningful. For some of my students, coming to school hungry is a daily reality. Having snacks or meals available in the classroom means more than just satisfying hunger — it supports focus, energy, and overall well-being. You have helped create a more welcoming and caring environment where students feel seen and supported. It’s one less barrier for them to overcome, and it truly makes a difference.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the classroom supplies you provided — whether it was pencils, notebooks, markers, or other essentials — have brought a new sense of excitement and readiness to our classroom. Many of my students come from families who are unable to afford basic school supplies, and your contributions have helped level the playing field. With your help, students can now fully participate in lessons without the worry of not having what they need. You have made learning more accessible and inclusive, and that is a gift beyond measure.\r\n\r\nWhat touches me the most is knowing that people like you are willing to invest in the success and well-being of students you may never meet.
